Various Assessors throughout Scotland will be carrying out their triennial revaluation in 2026
Every three years, the Assessors update the rateable values of all business properties in Scotland. The upcoming revaluation will take effect from the 1st April 2026, based on open-market rental values as of the 1st April 2025.
Your property’s rateable value is the starting point for calculating business rates. It isn’t the final bill, as local councils apply a multiplier and any relevant reliefs, but it’s the figure everything else is based on.
The new valuations will be released a few months before April 2026. The Assessors will write to you about the revaluation of your property, and you will get:
- An estimate of your new rateable value (a ‘draft valuation notice’) sent by your assessor on or before 30 November 2025
- Confirmation of your new rateable value (a ‘valuation notice’) sent by your assessor on or before 15 March 2026 – the new rateable value might be different from the estimate
There’s more information about draft valuation notices on the Scottish Assessors Association website.
