New ID Checks at Companies House

From 8 April 2025, Companies House is introducing identity checks for people involved in running or setting up UK companies. This is part of a wider effort to improve transparency and tackle economic crime.

Who does this apply to?

If you’re a company director, a person with significant control (PSC), or you file documents on behalf of a company, these new checks will apply to you.

What’s changing?

Everyone involved will soon need to prove their identity. You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Through the new GOV.UK One Login, or
  • Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) like us.

ACSPs (like MMG) have been able to register since March, and individuals can now start verifying their identity online.

Right now, the process is voluntary, but it will become mandatory later this year, likely in the autumn. For existing companies, the check will be included as part of your next confirmation statement.

How we can help

As your accountant (and an approved ACSP) we can take care of these ID checks for you. That means:

  • No extra admin or GOV.UK logins for you to deal with
  • We’ll carry out the checks and make sure everything’s recorded correctly
  • You’ll stay compliant and ahead of the deadline

This can be especially helpful if your company has more than one director or PSC.

If we already handle your company filings, we’ll be adding these checks into our usual work over the next few months. If you currently manage your own filings and want support, get in touch.
